A 10% discount applies to all our past guests.

We are very proud of the high standard of our catering, We offer breakfast, lunch (packed if going ashore) and a three course evening meal. Between times you can get coffee, tea and biscuits whenever you wish. Please specify any particular dietary requirements on booking. Vegetarians are welcome (David is one!). We do try to use fresh produce whenever possible, and local seafood when available.

Lesser butterfly orchid (Platanthera bifolia) on Canna. These orchids are not common in the Hebrides, this one was found near the old catholic church on Sandray.

Very common throughout the islands.

Sea Rocket (Cakile maritima)

On a sandy beach, again on sandray, although common everywhere on similar beaches.

Marsh marigold (Caltha palustris)

This is in a small stream near a crofthouse on Eriskay.

 

 


Dwarf Spear thistle on Hirta.Dwarf Spear thistle (Cirsium vulgare) on Hirta, St Kilda.

All the flora of St Kilda is dwarfed in response to the almost continual high winds.

 

Round leaved sundewRound leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia)

Found in a roadside ditch on North Uist.

 

 

 

Greater sundew Greater sundew (Drosera angelica)

Found further along the same ditch!

Bog pimpernell Bog pimpernell (Anagallis tenella)

Fairly common on damp ground later in the season.

 

 

 

RoserootRoseroot (Rhodiola Rosea)

Occurs on many of the sea cliffs, in huge profusion on the north cliffs of Skye. (Rubh Hushinish)

 

Oysterplant (Mertensia maritima),

with the site on the Treshnish Isles to the right. Very uncommon now in the wild, although grown in many garden rockeries.

 

Silverweed Silverweed (Potentilla anserina)

Many of the beaches have lots of this, but it also occurs well away from the sea.

 

 

 

Hebridean violetHebridean violet (Viola tricolour hebridensis)

A unique viola to the Hebrides, it brightens up many parts of the machair dunes.

 

Thyme broomrape (Orobanchaceae alba)

Found in a quiet bay on the Ross of Mull this uncommon plant parasitizes thyme.

 

 

Narrow leaved (or slender leaved) hellaborine (Cephalanthera longifolia)

This flower is found 30ft up a rocky (and steep) cliff in the same bay as the above.
